and northern latitude situation. seattle and portland seeing some rain, snow at the higher elevations. if anything is a saving grace, it's a little cooler this go-around, so some of the moisture getting locked up in higher elevations in the form of snow. most of that is well north of san francisco and napa valley. this will sink further south, we'll get another piece of energy later on today that will spin up across the bay area and intensify the rainfall. that's what we will be watching closely. our computer models highlight that. one pulse to the north. another one fills in further to the south. it shouldn't be nearly what we saw last week. the ground is saturated. rivers are swollen. it won't take much to get more in the way of flooding. once we get past that, we are looking at a fairly dry scenario going over the next few days. today is the day. then tomorrow we'll hopefully be breathing a sigh of relief. >>> this morning intense fighting in syria outside the city of aleppo. rebel fighters trapped hundreds of government soldiers inside a military base and say they are giving them

[applause] >> good morning. thank you very much for being here. this is a wonderful opportunity for me to associate again on this month -- monitoring the future report. in the -- the assistant secretary of health could not be a stronger partner and the responsibility we have as adults for young people are particularly important. i am looking forward to hearing from you. it is always a great pleasure to be with dr. johnson who has given us the information that helps so much in that not only making policy but also the information needed to improve the nation's health, in particular the health of young people. there are a couple of important things i really took from this report. to put it a little bit into context, remembered this is a snapshot of the prior year. i think it is helpful to think about where we have been in the drug abuse and feel for the past number of decades. actually, over the past three decades. as we craft policy, it is helpful to take a look at that. we have made huge strides
, serious snow expected there in the next several days. look at the west coast and seattle, the snow levels have been down as low as 200 feet. they will go up to 400 feet for the afternoon. some of these snowfall totals, very substantial going into the next several days. could see 10 or 20 inches of snowfall. but in the midwest, this is what we'll focus on. we haven't seen a significant snow event like this. this one occurs as we go into wednesday and then for thursday, so you're traveling into chicago or des moines or topeka, wichita and even into denver. you could expect perhaps some delays later on in the workweek. how about 48-hour snowfall totals? spokane just under 5 inches being reported there. in libby, montana, two-day snow totals just about 2 feet. and newtown, connecticut, right now overcast with rain. the temperature a cold rain. 41 degrees. the winds are out of the east and northeast but as we go into the next five days, we'll look at a little bit of a break weatherwise. those temperatures will remain in the 40s but then as we go into friday, the rain is going to return and a 2

. both d.c. and seattle. >> clayton: and some of those investments, even in the d.c. area, we saw some investments in the outlying areas, but phoenix of course, vegas. investors coming in and buying up a lot of those properties down there, but how will the fiscal cliff affect investment going forward and maybe helping this recovery? because we're going to see a big increase in the capital gains taxes? >> that's right, it's going to have a bigger impact than i think analysts are predicting, maybe because they're numbers crunchers and not in the market. and fueling the momentum in the real estate markets, snapping up the foreclosure properties the last few years and the concern is they're going to be a little bit more conservative in their purchasing moving forward. and here is a really big thing to consider. consumer confidence is a huge driver in housing. and with this, all of this uncertainty of how much tax, people are going to be paying and what types of tax hikes people are going to be experiencing next year, i think the quarter one is it going to be a very conservative quarter for
